These rough time guidelines should help you to manage your wedding planning effectively with time to spare.

On Engagement
• Make sure to purchase a wedding organizer – this will help you keep track of Appointments, payments etc
• Make an engagement announcement so that all you family and friends will be aware
• Make a note of “Thank You” notes to be sent as you start receiving gifts
• Start your guest list asap. This list will include : Brides Family list, Grooms Family list, Brides Friends list, Grooms Friends list.

9 – 12 Months Prior
* Decide on the type of wedding you want to have (formal, relaxed, outdoor, indoor)
* Select the wedding date
* Decide on finances
* Find a wedding officiant – need to discuss ceremony and requirements before he/she is able to marry you.
* Book a photographer for the date – they are often booked in advance
* Select Maid of honor, Best man and other attendants
* Make sure to book a caterer and florist in advance

6 – 9 Months Prior
* Make arrangements for bridal gown to be made or selected
* Order Bridesmaids dresses
* Sort out legal details such as life insurance, insurance to cover joint property, joint bank accounts etc
* Make arrangements for travelers cheques if you need foreign money for your honey moon.
* Start working on your seating plans
* Make music and entertainment arrangements
* Inform all attendants of rehearsals and other plans

4 – 6 Months Prior
* Arrange to receive all your wedding stationary (invitations, thank you notes, guest book)
* Set up your gift registry
* Start making plans for your honeymoon
* Make plans for the rehearsal dinner should you decide to have one

2 – 4 Months Prior
* Make applications for your marriage license
* Purchase wedding rings (have them engraved)
* Arrange for the necessary blood tests
* Ensure you reserve a set of rooms/accommodation for out of town guests – usually receive a discount.
* Ensure the men in the wedding party have all attire sorted out


5 – 8 Weeks Prior

* Send off the invitations
* Organise small gifts for the attendants (glasses, key rings etc)
* Sort out your going-away outfit
* Make appointment with hair stylist for the big day
* Make appointment with make up artist
* Purchase gifts for each other (Bride & Groom)

3 – 4 Weeks prior
* Go over your checklist and ensure that everything has been organized
* Ensure your honey moon bookings are still in place and decide on items to take with

1 – 3 Days Prior
* Ensure out of town guests are met by someone and have directions
* Attendant gifts are usually distributed at the rehearsal dinners etc

REMEMBER: you have worked hard for this. On the day it is your turn to relax and enjoy!! Stop worrying and make the most of this special occasion.
